Because I went blind at the age of five, I know the world from both a sighted and blind perspective. As a result of this life-changing experience, perception has always continued to fascinate me. How do our senses work? How has perception changed through the centuries? What is the influence of language and culture on our way of looking, hearing, or touching? These are the questions that form a recurring theme in my literary and academic work.
